    Default Cooktown FNQ

For those who havent been to Cooktown its well worth planning a trip. There are two ways to get here. Firstly from Cairns take the Kennedy Highway to Kuranda and then onto the Mulligan Highway and through to Mareeba, Lakeland Downs and then onto Cooktown. The road is bitumen all the way and is about 326klms from Cairns.

The second option is again from Cairns and up to Port Douglas and then along Cape Tribulation Road and into the aboriginal community of Wujal Wujal. From there just keep heading north along the Bloomfield Track and past the historic Lions Den Hotel and Cooktown. However I would only recomend this way for four wheel drive vehicles as the track can be a bit rough and there are a couple of creek crossing which can be a bit ruggard. This trip is about the same distance as the Mulligan Highway but it does take a bit longer due to the dirt roads.

If anyone is thinking about coming up this way then the winter months are the best time with temps between 15 degrees minimum and 27 degrees maximum.

I have posted some pics from up here in my album for all to look at. If anyone has any questions just drop me a line.

I remember tryingthe route along Cape Tribulation road in 206... In a camper van... we got about 200metres and then realised it wasn't the right vehicles -mainly dues to the corrugations. FNQhas always fancinated me - inparticular for the fishing and the general diveristy. Onday - bit far from WA for the weekend tho!

is winter the same as the dry season i.e. now?

Sound a great place. Actually my aunt is inviting to visit her next year. I already said yes and I'm now fixing my papers. I would definitely love to visit that and went fishing or picnic or something like that. I hope to see that place very soon.

Hello everyone..Me and my boyfriend are also planning to go there to meet a friend of mine. But the problem is the long hours of driving and the rugged terrains ahead. Can anyone recommend an alternate route going there? And what type of vehicle should we use? It is our first time to visit Oz, and our trip is not due till the first leg of December.
    I really appreciate any feedback.
    Thanks and God bless.
