    Default Deep cycle dual batteries

Gday,Why do most people fit 2x12 volt batteries and not 2x6 volt batteries.I am setting up 2x6 volt trojan 105 225ah batteries in my camper being charged by 2x75watt panels though a 30amp 3stage controller. Will this system be enough to run a 60 ltr weaco fridge and lighting.I also have a C-tek 25amp charger for when its parked up(hopefully not too often).

Hey Travelguy I suppose the reason that most people set up 12 volt systems in their campers and caravans is that if for some reason you main batteries in the vehicle die then you can always use the camper batteries to get going again. I was unfortaunate to experience this when camping in Fraser Island. I run twin batteries in my 80 Series Cruiser. I went for an afternoon nap and went to go fishing in the afternoon. When I went to start the truck I found that both batteries had died and could not be recharged. Thankfully I could put the battery from the camper into the truck to get me going again.

Mate, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think your Waeco fridge runs on 12 volts. As Ken says, another 12 volt battery on hand may prove very handy to start the truck or the outboard in an emergency.

Its an interestin subject that i am goin through at the moment but i think usein the 6v batts is a weight factor as in usein 12v as a back up for startin a vehicle with a flat batt that is easy with the 2x 6v batts connected in series.

The thing is with all this parallel and series wiring with batts it is important to make sure each unit is holdin a voltage well and its discharge rate is strong as puttin a crook batt in series or parallel with good batts will pull down the good batts the set up ya have will easily run the fridge and of course stay away from incandecent type bulbs and go for the high efficency LED's trust me i am no expert on this subject ya can have a look at my set up here http://aroundozwithstunshaz.yolasite.com/ i have just installed, hope this info helps and i just noticed how old the thread is!!!

    Regards- Stunshaz
