    Default G'day Everyone

G'day to everyone, I have just joined up, I am taking a year or so off work next year and taking my wife and 4 kids on a trip of a lifetime. We are going to head from Victoria up the East Coast and go Right around and then some hopefully.
We have family in Queensland, N.T and W.A so want to get around everywhere.
My wife and Kids are new to Big trips. I have been across the south coast to Perth and then up to Ulluru and down through the guts but thats about it for me.
Any suggestions anyone has for travelling with kids would be good. They are all girls aged 12, 8, 7, and 2. We will be travelling in a Troop carrier towing a caravan.

Hey mate welcome aboard the site. Hope you enjoy your trip with the wife and kids. There are heaps too see up along the Queenslnad coast. I have travelled a bit with kids and I advise to get them some things to do while driving (puzzles, coloring books and things). If you can afford it a roof mounted DVD player is also great.

If you want anymore info just let me know.

    Default Yeah can not wait

Hi Tim, our family vehicle only has an 1800kg towing capacity so I am in the market for a troopy to modify slightly to accomadate the kids comfortably and safely and then we will be shopping for a 21 foot pop top with 4 bunks and double bed, shower / toilet etc.
My best mate is production manager at the new roadstar / compass factory so he can probably build me what I want brand new, cheaper than I could buy 2nd hand.
The other option is to buy a smaller pop top with fold out beds etc. and use our existing vehicle which is a Mitsubishi Delica ( 4x4 Van turbo diesel with gas conversion) This van is extremely comfortable to travel in so we would love to take it but believe we need a larger van as we will be on the road for a long time.
    Any reccomendations from you ?

Hey mate, I suppose that it all depends on the finances. If you have the available finances to go with the Troopie and 21ft van then I would probably go with that as I believe that to have one custom built to your specs will be far more comfortable which is definately worth considering especially as you will all be living in it for a year. The other thing to consider is how eaisy it is to set up the van each time you pull up as after a days driving you want something that is nice and easy to set up while the kids are begging you for this, that and the other thing. Just my thoughts.

Sounds great - I have just started looking the options available. Varying from the Camper trailers to the humble caravan... at this moment I'm thinking campertrailer but like the ideaof an offroad caravan. Small steps and all of that. The adveture trailers look good.mI have also hear outstading reviewsabout these guys http://www.modcon.com.au/ and alot cheaper.

Hi what a trip Im jealous I have to agree with Ken Id go with the troopy if funds allow it, you then know you have a vehicle that spares are redily available and a totally reliable truck plus a true offroader. Hres a great site to look at for ideas with the kids .Alan
